Google voice, formally known as Grand Central, is the Internet phone everyone is talking about. Google Voice is a tool to connect all your phones to one number or to use your phone number to get your voicemails online. I was very fortunate to get an early copy of Google voice after trying to get one for a few months. Google is making it hard to get a so-called,“Google number,” because it wasn’t released to the public yet.  In Google voice you pick your own phone number for free and when people call that number it calls your cell phone or home phone, you choose! If you want to use your own number all it does is gets your voicemail online and you can have personalized greetings to different callers. The only thing is that you have to live in the U.S.A. to have a Google voice account.  If you have friendsor family over seas, Google voice also offers cheap international phone calls.

Though Google voice isoutstanding, it has a few problems. If you don’t have a phone, you CAN NOT use Google voice.  Another feature that does not work wellis that Google voice try’s to transcribe the words of a voice mail into your Google voice inbox but it doesn’t work as well as I would like it to. 

On the other hand Googlevoice is an excellent tool to get the phone number you want.  My Google Number is (202) JLO-FFIR, my name. Lets say you want your name in the phone number you can do that.  While Google Voice seems like awonderful thing but Apple inc. says there is not an app for that and blocked the Google Voice app from its app store. 

Personally, I use Google voice for an online place to keep my voice mails, texts, and contacts.  My favorite thing about Google voice is that your phone number is all you and no one can stop that.  To conclude Google voice is an awesome thing but you can’t use it as a phone number on a regular phone.  If you want a Google Voice account go to www.google.com/voice and click the request an invite link, cross your fingers and hope for the best.  GOOGLE VOICE ROCKS!
